Kosmogonia

Kosmogonia

Pearl pigment, oil enamel on canvas. 72" x 72"

In this piece Biija depicts  the  scientific theory  concerning  the coming into existence  (or origin) of  the cosmos (or universe), and the so-called "reality " of sentient beings. Kosmogonia also embodies our natural curiosity of discovering other worlds, whether we are seeking them out or they reveal themselves to us. Observe the Light , Heat , Dark and Cold  as they interact in this painting, and how upon observance of abstract lines we anthropomorphize the lines interactions with each other.

Phaeton and His Cindered World

Phaeton and His Cindered World

Oil enamel on canvas. 72" x 72"

In Greek mythology Phaeton  was a young son of Helios and Klymene who begged his father to let him drive the chariot of the sun. The Sun-god reluctantly conceded to the boy's wishes and handed him the reigns.

However, the inexperienced Phaeton quickly lost control of the immortal steeds, and the sun-chariot veered out of control setting the earth aflame, scorching the plains of Africa to desert.

Biija updates this myth through her use of abstract representation, and her “coincidental” use of Carl Jung’s symbol for Ego (represented in Orange, or the fiery chariot).

Phenomenon

Phenomenon

OIl enamel on pearl plaster. 72" x 72"

This painting expresses Biija's own manifestation of a cosmic phenomenon through either the macro or microscopic perspective.

The term phenomenon refers to any incident deserving of inquiry and investigation, especially events that are particularly unusual or of distinctive importance. Humans can infer only as much as their senses allow, but not experience the actual object itself.  You are invited to stretch your senses and imagination and see if you can experience Biija's "Phenomenon" beyond what the average observer may experience. The pearlescent plaster base will shimmer differently as light reflects, creating depth and visual variance, ever altering your perception.
